The Road Home

Who doesn't dream of living in the big city once in their life? Residents of highly populated and popular areas such as New York, London, Paris, Tokyo, Amsterdam, Los Angeles, Seoul... Do they even think about it from time to time? How lucky they are, that they have all of my favorite shops and that they can attend the best events without having to pay a €35 train fee and travel for 2,5 hours or more?

I know for a fact that I will be living in one of these cities one day, regardless of what I decide to take on as my profession. Something about urban culture is so extremely fascinating that I keep getting drawn to it, no matter where I go. I don't need hiking through mountains or endless afternoons by the pool on a distant camping; I'd rather have a city to discover. But, you know, let's not lie about it: it is not happening anytime soon. I must finish highschool first, find a decent place to get my bachelor in whatever and collect the money and courage to move. This will be in about 2 to 3 years (if everything goes as planned).
Now, that's not even that long, but in the meantime, I'm still stuck here. Don't mistake me for living in some countryside village or residing in the middle of no where; I do live near an acceptible city, but it's still too small for me.

Because of this frustration, I decided to go out today, a saturday, and cycle to my school. The same road I cycle every day, twice. I have probably passed everything litterally a thousand times, in good and bad weather, from mon- to fridays. This time, however, I decided to keep an eye open for little details. Things of which I think 'I haven't seen this anywhere else; this is unique for my place'. Maybe it isn't genuinely unique, but it's not something such as 'a road' or 'a traffic light' that every city has.
I went out and looked for the things that make life on this place worth it.

Yup, go on and throw in a filter here and there to make everything seem even more beautiful than it actually is. Oh, doesn't that look hellafine? And I pass it every day! I get to enjoy such pretty scenery every day! Aren't I a lucky person?
I'm slowly starting to develop more love for my own city. These pictures help a lot, but also discovering nice places and little shops, meeting new people and attending events. It makes me realise that I never really knew this city in the first place. It's like seeing somebody and judging them on what they're wearing. You'll come a long way with it, as clothes often tell a lot about a person, but there will always be things you don't know. Unless you actually ask.
